TOBIN Family History
This interesting surname is of Norman-French origin, from St. Aubyn in France, and may now be regarded as a completely Hibernicized name. The family, first called de St. Aubyn, arrived in Ireland in the wake of the Norman Invasion (1169 - 1170), and by the year 1200 they were settled in Counties Tipperary and Kilkenny, from whence they spread to the neighbouring Munster counties of Cork and Waterford. Other Norman names which have become completely Irish are Roche (originally "de Roche") and Cusack (originally "de Cussac"). The Tobins were an extremely influential family in County Tipperary in medieval times, and the head of the family was known as Baron of Coursey...Select Audience

Hi there, Cornelius Tobin is my fifth great grandfather. His father was John Tobin from Dublin, born around 1740. I do not have any further information on his parents. I've done a lot of research on Cornelius once he settles in South Carolina. I would love to know of any information you have on Eleanor!

Hi! I'm looking for information on a James Tobin who married Mary Doyle before immigrating to America in 1838. Their daughter Bridget Tobin was my 3rd great grandmother. I'm having a difficult time finding any information about them before their immigration.

My mother's ancestors were Co Cork people, tenants on Cloghleafin land near Mitchelstown. Great-grandfather was William Tobin, his wife Kate Walsh of Ballysurdane who lived on Lot 5a with 15 surviving children. David, their son, married Mary Agnes Butler to whom three children were born: William (known as Liam), Katherine and Nicholas. David, Liam & Nicholas were active in seeking freedom for Ireland circa 196. David was imprisoned in Kilmainham Gaol on a number of occasions, Nicholas was killed and Liam (Major General Liam Tobin) was Director of Intelligence working closely with Michael Collins.

Hi! Trying to find more info on my GGG Ellen (Eleanor) Tobin of Kilkenny.
?
Her father was Cornelius Franklin Tobin and he came to America (South Carolina) in the late 1700's. I have a name for his father but I'm not certain if it's valid but tracing them before he left Ireland hs been a challenge.Gary Anstis
Georgina Louisa Montgomery who married James Tobin in Bangalore in 1861 is my great great grandmother. Great grandmother is Katherine or Kitty Tobin who married William Ball in 1894. Grandmother Amy Agnes Ball married Robert Edward Baker Willmott in Madras in 1920. Gets complicated as I am the biological son of Leon Aubrey Willmott, 1926-1988. Leon was born in Madras and died in Palmerston North, New Zealand.
