PRENDERGAST Family History
This famous surname is recorded throughout the British Isles. It is arguably English, Welsh, Irish and Scottish, but is ultimately of Norman-Flemish pre 10th century origins. It is locational from a now "lost" medieval village called Brontegeest, in the province of Flanders, near to the city of Ghent, and was taken by early Flemish settlers to Normandy. It is said to have been brought to England by Prenliregast, a follower of Duke William of Normandy during the famous Conquest of 1066. His son Philip, was given lands near Haverfordwest, in the "English" county of Pembrokeshire, Wales, and called Prendergast Castle...Select Audience

The surname O,Shirin/Shearing/Sherren was an off shoot of the Prendergast Clan in Ireland. Can we use the Prendergast Clan Coat of Arms??

I am searching for the family of my 3G Grandma whose maiden name is Margaret Prendergast. She was born in Ireland about 1842, She married Thomas O'Brien who was born in Ireland about 1842, According to census records they married around 1862. They also immigrated to USA around 1862. They died in San Francisco. Their children are Edward O'Brien born 1864 died 1919. He was in the Navy and the Army and was a musician. Margaret born around 1868, Katherine O'Brien born around 1872. Katherine married William Frasier. Mary E O'Brien born June, 1877 who married William Murenin, and Eugene Aloysius O'Brien born around 1878. All five children were born in California. Unfortunately most of the records before 1906 were lost in the earthquake and fires of 1906 so it is difficult to find information about my family. Any information or advice you can share is greatly appreciated. I would love to find a marriage record for Thomas O'Brien and Margaret Prendergast, or Margaret's parents' names or the towns in Ireland where Thomas and Margaret's families lived.
