MCSHANE Family History
This popular Irish clan surname is an anglicized spelling of the Gaelic "Mac Seain". Translating as "son of John", the name was introduced into Ireland in the 7th century a.d. "John" is the most popular of all the original Hebrew and later Christian given names. Every country in Europe has its examples, and it is estimated that there are over seven hundred spelling forms ranging from the original "Yochanan" though the medieval "Johann", to the patronymic and diminutives such as Johnson or Aujouanet, and the Czech Janvosky. McSeain
My father's name is Daniel Bryan Johnson, and a 23&Me DNA test I took informed me that I am very Irish and a descendant of Niall of the Nine Hostages, but I guess that's supposed to be common. That said, my father's family has been no help, and what little info I find is super expensive or so generic as to be useless. Long ago I lost all the info to the 23&Me test I took (not trusting it at the time, I made an email just for it and, after pretty much giving up a few years ago, I had forgotten all the log in info and all that is lost to me now) and now with my third child on the way I am coming at this again. Any info on related surname projects or anything related to the Sept would be most welcome.

There is some vague family history that "Jackson" was once known as McShane. I believe I have traced lineage on my fathers side of "Jackson's" back to about 1790's in wexford ireland. A Marshall Jackson. Any info you have to help trace this family lore of a name change would be helpful.
