HUBBARD Family History

This ancient surname derives from the Anglo-Saxon personal name Hugibert or Hubert, itself a compound of the elements "hug" meaning "heart", and "beorht" - bright or famous, a translation which no doubt contributed to its early popularity. The name was probably introduced in Britain by the Saxon invaders of the 8th century, although its first known recording would seem to be that of 'Eudo filius Huberti' (Eudo, son of Hubert) in the Domesday Book of 1086. This was not of course a surname, the first of these being Roger Hubert, who appears in the 1199 Fine Court Rolls of Northumberland. This in fact is quite appropriate as the patron saint of hunting, with Northumberland being a renowned hunting country, is St...

Hi James, Thank you for that information. I'm also descended from Viking 261; how do you know he was the only one who possessed filed teeth among the 54 Vikings found at Dorset? PS I'm not a Hubbard but I have other ancestors from England including Brewster.

According to Familytreedna Big 700 YDNA test I am the Phylogenetic son of Viking 261 who was found beheaded near Upwelling, Dorset,England. We both have marker R-BY64643 and Viking 261 possessed the only filed teeth of the 54 Vikings found at Dorset. Carbon dating puts the date of death between 970 and 1025 AD. Do you have any Hubba’s beyond John Hubba of Monks Eleigh Suffolk, born 1230 AD? James Hubbard 859-509-5229 Lexington, Ky. 40504
