MCNAMEE Family History

This famous Irish clan name recorded as MacNamee and the short form McNamee, is a nickname. It derives from the Old Gaelic 'Mac Con Midhe' which translates as 'The son of the hound of Meath'. This seems a strange naming even by Irish standards, as the clan were hereditary poets! Perhaps there was once some allegorical connection between poetry and fast moving hound dogs, although it is stretching the imagination to think what this could be. What is certain is that Ireland in the days of the Nine Kings was a land of great learning and high academic standards, far in advance of the Anglo-Saxons and the later Viking and Normans who invaded both Britain and Ireland in the 5th to the 11th centuries...

My greatgrandfather was William McNamee, my mom was born a McNamee.  I traced my family back to Wexford as near as I can tell.  My uncle's widow travels over to the other side of the pond often and told me "If you say the name in a crowded pub, nearly everyone answers up.  You will be surprised how much you and your uncle resemble the people I have met."

My Great, Great Grandfather was Graham McNamee of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. His wife's name was Ann Grant of Norfolk ,Virginia. Their daughter, my Great Grandmother was Della McNamee who later married George Benjamin Kline of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They had three children, George B. Kline, Raymond Kline, and Ina Mae Kline. I have birth dates for Della that are 1848 and 1854. I'm not sure which is correct but I think 1848 may be correct. Della McNamee Kline died in Washington County ,Pennsylvania in 1936.
