David Devine
My name is David Devine and I live in Cambridge, Ontario. I have been able to validate my family history back to 1805 when my 4th Great Grandparents (Denis Duane and Ellen Shea) were married and my 3rd Great Grandfather (Michael Duane) was born. Both the marriage and baptism records showed the name as Duane, but later church records showed the variants Dwane and Devane. Denis and Michael emigrated to Canada circa 1830, whuch is when Canadian records started reflecting the name as Divine and then Devine, which is also a name used in Kerry (admittedly less often). Based on my research, including DNA research, all of these families are part of the broader original Irish ODubhain family, which makes me wonder why there are separate Duane and Devane forums in ireland101.com. Devine is also a variant of ODaimhin so I understand it being a bit different.
